Guide to Estimating for Vacuduct Systems

  • To calculate number of inlet valves. The cleaning hose is 10 Mtr long, so working from a scale plan (1:50) take a piece of cord 18 cm long and establish positions for inlets. Plan the position of inlets with care, basing your selection on how far the hose (cord) will reach. Remember that it will need to reach all corners working around the furniture. Avoid positioning inlet valves behind doors etc. Mark inlet on plan and repeat until all floor area can be reached from one or other inlet positions. Central positions such as under the stairs are excellent.

  • Repeat for each floor of house. Inlet valves can be mounted either on solid walls with the ducting running up back side of wall. (Hint, inside cupboards is a useful place to run the ducting) or with stud timber walls ducting can be run up between studs. Ideally, 1st floor inlets are positioned directly above ground floor inlets to minimise ducting and bends required.

  • The power unit can be located in the garage, utility room or any out of the way cupboard, but preferably where access is good to allow for periodic emptying. If located inside the house the exhaust from the machine will need to be vented to outside and if fitted in a cupboard allow for ventilation (i.e. louvered doors) to ensure motor does not overheat.

  • The 52 mm O/D rigid PVC ducting will be run from the power unit to the inlet positions. It is usual to have one main run with branches off to the various inlet positions. Mark position of ducting on plan and ensure that all inlets are connected to power unit.

  • Note number of inlet valves required in table below. If a Vacpan for the kitchen is required then allow for an additional inlet kit. Then measure all vertical and horizontal duct runs to calculate TOTAL DUCTING quantity. Add 10% to allow for wastage.

Once you have calculated the number of inlets required and decided on the position of the power unit fill in the table below. We allow for 5 Mtrs of ducting per inlet so under “DUCTING REQUIRED” fill in your total quantity required. Subtract ducting required from ducting included (in column 2) and fill in “ADDITIONAL DUCTING REQUIRED”, if needed.
